The Four Secrets of a Great Writer

SECRET NUMBER 1:

Once an expert on writing was asked, “What is the secret of being a great writer?” He replied without blinking an eye, that “The secret of a great write is to ….write…. then write….then write more….then write, write write and write, and write and write and write and keep writing. There is no secret but to keep writing. “

Unfortunately, very few people realize this fact. Why do you think I write these blogs now? Because I want to write, write, write, write and write. Because I know that if I keep doing it, the quality and speed of my writing will increase. It is just a matter of time for all of us. After writing and publishing over 40 scientific articles do you think I am a perfect writer? I don’t think so. I think I need to learn more and more to improve myself. The only secret is to keep writing, period. Your age shouldn’t come in between your writing. You are never too late to start, start today.

SECRET NUMBER 2:

It is often said, that practice makes us perfect. But in reality practice will make it perfect whatever you are doing. If your technique is wrong, you will keep repeating the same mistake again until you correct the technique. Just like in sports, a sportsman keeps hitting the same shot and getting out at the same shot again and again and becomes perfect at the mistake he is doing. He actually is practicing the same mistake during the training sessions too, therefore, he is making the same mistake again when in the field. Therefore, remember we all need coaching and guidance. Training and coaching will remove those flaws from your skills and techniques. I myself made the same mistakes in my writing for a long time until I learned from an expert that there is a technical flaw in my writing. There is no shame in learning and taking courses on writing. Its a pride and honor because only successful people understand the importance of learning. Get official training or a coach.

SECRET NUMBER 3:

Read other authors and writers published material. Learning cannot just come by practicing alone. You have to learn to observe. Observe what others are doing, see how other writers write. See how other authors start their article or a book chapter. See how they put forward their argument. See how many paragraphs they use, how many words they use and see what vocabulary they use. In order to be a great writer, you have to be a great observer first. Being a good observer will also make you vigilant about the mistakes you are doing in your writing. Soon a day will come when you will be able to point mistakes in others writing too. At that point, don’t laugh at any writer, because you were one of those writers once.

SECRET NUMBER 4:

Writing becomes a challenge when we write on something we don’t like. For example, when I started to write my first research article, it was just for the purpose of getting some experience. Therefore, I wrote it on something I never liked. Eventually a time came when I burned out. I totally lost interest in that subject. The result being, I never completed the article. Believe me, the article is still undone. Gradually with experience I learned that if you want to write something of high quality, you gotta love that topic. I learned a lesson that we should only write about the subject that we are passionate about. Trust me had I not loved this topic, I wouldn’t have written this blog in just ten minutes. All of you who are living the life of passion, know what I am talking about.

CONCLUSION:

Get trained, and keep writing, and keep growing. Self improvement is the key to success in anything you want to achieve. If you don’t improve your skills, you cannot achieve anything in life because you will keep repeating the same mistakes again and again. That is why, the training and coaching of some sort will help you. Moreover, learning from other people’s published articles and blogs will help you as well. Be a keen observer and look at how others write their manuscripts. Be humble and leave the arrogant part of yourself at home.
